Premier League side Crystal Palace has parted ways with their manager Patrick Vieira following a poor stretch of form. The club has failed to win any match in 2023 and risk dropping into the Championship unless they can cushion their current position with more points.

A statement from the club announced the exit of the manager together with three of his backroom staff; Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun while Dean Kiely will retain his position as the goalkeepers’ coach.

Club chairman Steve Parish said in the statement that the change was necessary to ensure Palace retains its Premier League status.

“It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status,” the statement said.

The 46-year-old Senegal-born former French international joined the Eagles in 2021 and has supervised over 70 matches within that period. And the Palace Chairman acknowledged his impact since his arrival in July 2021.

“That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues. He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and respectable 12th placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival.

“Patrick has given his all to the club, and we all thank him and his team for their service.

“We also wish Patrick, Osian, Kristian and Saïd the very best for their futures.”

According to the club, efforts are underway to get a new manager to complete the season.

Crystal Palace are placed 12th in the league but are only separated by five points between them and the bottom team Southampton. With the bottom teams all seeing an upturn in form, Palace’s position is threatened and they must find solutions to increase their points tally or risk playing lower-tier football next season.
