A former ambassador and the chairman of the Zongo Caucus Working Committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress, H. E Alhaji Said Sinare said the NDC’s call for an audit of EC’s IT Systems and the voter register is democratic. Alhaji Said Sinare was speaking on the sidelines of the “Enough Is Enough” protest targeting the Electoral Commission. According to him, all peace-loving Ghanaians should support the call.
When asked why a forensic audit of the voter register, he argued that the Jean Mensa-led EC has proven that it cannot be trusted. According to him, since the establishment of the Electoral Commission, the Jean Mensah-led Commission is the only Electoral Commission that historically, sat behind an IT system and illegally transferred over 15,000 eligible voters without their prior knowledge contrary to the Electoral laws of the country.
He furthered that Ghana as a sovereign nation has come far with its democracy. Said Sinare said the NDC and all well-meaning Ghanaians are not ready and will never allow an NPP-aligned Electoral Commission to jeopardize it emphasizing the peace and tranquillity Ghanaians are enjoying despite the economic challenges imposed by the Bawumia-led Economic Management Team.
Alhaji Said Sinare, the Zongo president of the opposition National Democratic Congress emphasized that the over 30 million Ghanaians will not sit aloof and see the current Electoral Commission truncate the will of the people by compiling a fraudulent voter register. He noted that the NDC’s Rescue Mission in the December 7 election is of paramount interest to Ghanaians and can’t be jeopardized on the grounds of voter register fraud.
The former diplomat said the NDC as a political party is ready to use its last energy to protect the over 3 decades of democracy founded by Jerry John Rawlings, the founder of the National Democratic Congress.
Alhaji Sinare sounded a strong warning to the Electoral Commission to heed the calls of the NDC and as a matter of urgency, allow for the forensic audit to correct all manner of irregularities and discrepancies in the register and their IT system. He warned that the NDC will not countenance peace for the election to be rigged for a particular candidate.
The former Ambassador and High Commissioner to Egypt and Saudi Arabia has also called on civil society organizations, religious leaders and all well-meaning Ghanaians to join the crusade to save Ghana’s democracy with a credible register and transparent election. He insinuated that anyone who opposes the forensic audit is more dangerous than a coup plotter.
Alhaji Sinare urged Ghanaians to remain resolute and stand by the NDC to push the EC to do the right thing so that the NPP can be defeated fairly and transparently on December 7 to reset the nation.
