Akufo-Addo sacks 24 DCEs, appoints 26 in less than 24 hours

President Akufo-Addo has in less than 24 hours taken jobs away from 24 of his appointees and given the same jobs to 26 new ones. The president exercised his authority under Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014, (Act 936).

In his sack letter of the 24 Municipal and District Chief Executives copied to the Local Government Minister, the Vice President and Chief of Staff, the president listed the names and municipalities/districts of the affected persons.

Included in the list are the MCEs for Ga East, Ga Central, Weija Gbawe and Adenta in the Greater Accra Region. The Ashanti Region had two casualties, Ahafo Ano North and Amansie West. While the Upper East Region saw two casualties in Bawku West and Bolgatanga East, the Upper West Region saw only one causality in Sisala West.

A day after the dismissal of the 24, President Akufo-Addo announced their replacements. He also announced replacements for Adaklu and Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira Districts, making the appointees 26.

“Pursuant to my letter on February 2, 2024, and in accordance with article 243 (1) of the Constitution, I have made the following nominations to the office of Chief Executive of the following Municipal and District Assemblies.”

Below is the list of new appointees by President Akufo-Addo to the various Municipalities and District assemblies.

  2. Oscar Asare Andoh for Amansie West
  3. Dr. Amoateng Augustine Kwasi for Nkoranza South
  4. Mohammed Haruna for Pru East
  5. Samson Gbolu for Sene East
  6. Moses Arhinful for Awutu Senya West
  7. Nana Kweku Abban for Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira
  8. Mavis Opokua Akonnor for Asuogyaman
  9. Paddy Amponsah Douglas for Atiwa West
  10. Prof. Edward Asante Antwi for New Juaben North
  11. Owusu Arthur Emmanuel for Nsawam-Adoagyiri
  12. Ebenezer Doku for Adentan
  13. Ambrose Tsegah for Ga Central
  14. Deborah Ampofo for Ga East
  15. Michael Danquah for Weija Gbawe
