We’d have 30 Cedis to $1 if it was NDC – Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s Campaign Team, has claimed that despite the Ghana Cedi’s poor performance under the NPP, it would have been worse if the NDC was the leading country.

According to Miracles Aboagye, the Cedi dropped in value and depreciated from GH₵1.2 to GH₵3.9 to the United States dollar in 2014. The poor performance within that short period is enough justification that it would have been worse under the NDC in the last 7 years.

“I am very sure that if in August 2014 the dollar was going that fast, if the same managers were here we would be buying the dollar at GH₵25. Can you tell me what was happening in 2014 for the Cedi to move from 1.2 to 3.9 Cedis to the dollar?” he questioned.

Miracles Aboagye blamed the poor performance under the NPP on global economic challenges which he said would have resulted in a poor Cedi under NDC. He opined that if the NDC was in charge, Ghanaians would pay between 25 Cedis to 30 Cedis for one United States dollar.

“When you are running an organization you run it with conditions, the condition will determine where you are moving your organization to. In Ghana today the challenges we suffer in the global economy, if these managers were the ones in charge between 2020 and now we would be buying dollars at GH₵25 or Gh₵30. Because in 2014 we had no reason to have the dollar where it was,” Mr. Aboagye stated.

H“I can tell you what COVID-19 has done to us; I can tell you what the Ukraine-Russia war has done to us. I can tell you what the challenges in Asia have done to us. Can you tell me what was happening in 2014? Mention, just tell me one,” he stated.
