The New Force spokesperson granted GH¢20,000 bail

The spokesperson for the New Force, a mysterious political group known for its masked faces, Ms Shalimar Abbiusi has been granted bail in Accra. Ms Shalimar Abbiusi was granted GH¢20,000 with two sureties bail on Monday by the Kaneshie District court.

Parents of the Belgian national and persons believed to be supporters of the New Force were in court to support her. Ms Shalimar Abbiusi, the only known figure of the New Force was arraigned in court on charges of false acquisition of a student permit in Ghana.

The New Force spokesperson was held in lawful custody since December 8 after she was hauled before the court by the Ghana Immigration Service. Based on a request for time to complete investigations into the matter, the court granted the prosecution’s request and detained her in custody.

While the defence counsel, Mr Jamal Tonzua, argued that his client was not of flight risk, citing that her passport was with the GIS enabling the service to track her movement, the prosecution thought otherwise. The prosecution told the court on Friday that “she is an illegal immigrant and the court cannot grant bail to an illegal immigrant because the court would be perpetuating an illegality”.

Miss Shalimar Abbiusi acquired a student permit in Ghana though “she is not a student in any of the schools in Ghana”.
