Still Here: Dr Pushkin, Strongman Burner and Ataman Nikita on fire

Estimated read time 3 min read

Consistency, energy, passion and game-on; call it whatever but that describes this man, Dr Pushkin and his march in the Ghanaian music industry. After progressively shooting himself to the spot and endearing himself to the audience, the Ghanaian unorthodox lyricist teamed up with Strongman Burner and Ataman Nikita to drop ‘Still Here’.

Barely three weeks after delivering a ‘sermon on the mountain’ with Lyrical Joe in ‘No Heroes‘, Dr Pushkin and his label mate, Ataman Nikita worked another magic visual with one of Ghana’s top-rated rappers, Strongman.

Still Here was released in June, the sixth song from Dr Pushkin in 2024. The song talks about obstacles and the resolve to go beyond the doubts, failed support and other such challenges found in life. While not explicit, the song chronicles the journey of the Ghanaian mathematician and machine learning engineer in the music industry.

Shot in parts of Kumasi and directed by Atigsi Badek, Dr Pushkin paid tribute to his former school, Opoku Ware School with whom he won the National Science and Maths Competition in 2002. As has been his theme, the video presented clean visuals with no explicit images as is the trend in the videos of most industry players who seek exposure at all costs.

The presence of Strongman Burner and his sharp verses added extra nuance that speaks directly to a section of the music fanbase. To say the Still Here song itself is tuneful is probably an understatement that places focus on only the beat, tempo and flow. Still Here represents a complete everyday life story with a signature of courage and conviction to persist.

Ataman Nikita who has been passive in music and now ready to fully launch an active career in the industry delivered to perfection; mixing simplicity with scaled rhythm. Listening to his verse in the chorus depicts one who has full control over harmony but his performance in the video shows far more than control; it shows mastery of his craft.

Meanwhile, Ataman Nikita is set to release the first single from his maiden album ‘Enigma’ on July 31, 2024. The song according to the executive producer, Paul Azunre, “kicks off a new era in Ghanaian Music”. Check the pre-save link for Ataman Nikita’s Enigma.
