Ghanaian reggae and afro roots grandmaster Rocky Dawuni will be among a cast of international artists to perform at the 2023 edition of Festival International in Lafayette, Lousiana in the United States of America.
The Ghanaian took to social media to share the piece of good news as he is billed to make a two-day appearance at the five-day global event. This year’s edition kicks off on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, and ends on Sunday, April 30. Rocky Dawuni will make an appearance on the fourth and fifth days of the festival.
On Saturday, the multiple-time Grammy nominee will perform between 6:15 pm and 7:30 pm with the Ghanaian given more than an hour to entertain the audience. Dawuni will perform on Tito’s Handmade Vodka Lafayette stage. Also performing on the same day are the Malian duo of Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba who will take to stage soon after the Ghanaian. Prior to Dawuni’s performance will be the Gambia’s Sona Jobarteh who will perform on the International Stage.
Climaxing the event, the Ghanaian will take to the same stage to perform between 5:30 pm and 6:45 pm on Sunday. Other bands and musicians who will perform at this year’s event are Dub Inc from France, RAM from Haiti, La Tribu de Abrante from Puerto Rico and ADG7 from South Korea among other international bands and performers. There will also be local representation with scores of Louisiana-based bands and musicians billed to perform at the event.
Background
Festival International organizes the annual five-day event in Downtown Lafayette, a historical city in Lousiana. The event brings together performers from different countries to showcase their culture at one of the biggest events of its nature.
According to a short description on the Festival’s website, the event “boasts top-notch music from around the world, gourmet food, handcrafted artworks and so much more! People of all ages come from near and far to experience Festival’s magic”.
