Actress Kafui Danku did not take it lightly after she had to pay GHS1000 for braids in Accra. The actress who said she did not even get good service after paying such a huge amount blamed the NPP government for making things expensive in the country.
She posted on social media “I can’t get over the bad experience I had yesterday at braid lounge in East Legon. That woman is rude and the worst service provider I’ve encountered. She charged me 1000 plus Ghs for braids which I was willing to pay but had issues just because my guest didn’t say hello!
“Anokwa!
Then she added, “Truly, I pity those young girls working in such lousy salon! I went to church today o, so I’ll leave it here. Who even charges 1000 ghs for common braids!
“For such charges, service should be top notch. I blame the NPP government for all this,” she ended her post.
The post saw many high profile reactions but one particularly warranted a strong response from “Happy Deathday” actress.
Fatima Abubakar, a Deputy Communication Minister reacted to the post and told the actress it is her choice of place that warranted that she paid such huge amount for braids. She added that she got hers for GHS120 at Malata Market in Accra and asked Kafui Danku to contact the owner for cheap braids next time. Also, she told Miss Danku not to blame the government for everything.
Her post read, “At Malata market last week I paid 120ghc for my braids. 60ghc for the hair and 60ghc for workmanship. You make ridiculous choices, you pay ridiculous prices. Don’t blame government for everything. Hajia Mariam is my plug. If you need directions to the Salon, contact her.”
But Kafui Danku would not accept that as she responded to the comment, telling the minister that as a government appointee, she is “supposed to be addressing the rip-off with measures and not recommending me to someone at Malata Market”.
“I reside at East Legon, but I should go to Malata Market, which is 23km (yes, I checked) to braid my hair. Just because we want distance convenience, is that why we should be ripped off. In certain other countries, the government can put measures in place to regulate service rates of not only salons but hotels and accommodation.
“For now, I know the main association that works is the transport union. As a deputy minister, you are supposed to be addressing the rip off with measures and not recommending me to someone at Malata Market. I have had braids done equally at cheaper rates. We all want to try different things at some point, and we would always appreciate social media as an e-place we can share our experiences,” Kafui Danku responded.
