The Ghana Football Association, GFA, has secured the blessings of FIFA to purchase $100,00 of footballs for clubs in the regional leagues. Clubs that will benefit from the gesture include men’s and women’s second and third-division clubs in the country.
GFA President Kurt Okraku broke the news during the 29th session of the GFA Congress. The effort is part of measures to ensure that each professional club has match-day balls ahead of the new season. This will not be a new thing for the federation with footballs and bibs having been given to clubs in the past.
Clubs especially those in the lower leagues have often struggled with acquiring the required logistics including footballs for games. So the GFA as part of efforts to address the shortcoming is procuring the balls to cushion the teams. Sponsorship for the various leagues is either very low or absent with the most notable leagues in the football pyramid that have sponsors being the Premier League and the Division One as well as the Women’s Premier League.
Whereas the Ghana Premier League starts in mid-September, the regional leagues will start in the first week of November with the first round of matches expected to take place between 3-5 November.
