Brazilian fleet-footed winger Vinícius José Paixão de Oliveira Júnior has pledged his readiness to commit all to fight racism. Vinicius Jr said his resolve is to ensure those who come after him enjoy the fruits of a world without racism.
His comment followed his tirade with La Liga President Javier Tebas who decided to ungracefully shift blame to the winger instead of standing up for the rot of racism eating up one of the best leagues. Tebas has opined that Vini Jr needed to take responsibility for the racist actions towards him as he has failed to learn what the league can and cannot do regarding racism.
However, after taking the La Liga boss to the cleaners for his ill-thought comment, Vinicius Jr as now just like the Christ the Redeemer that overlooks his home city of Rio de Janeiro, he has pledged to continue with his fight against racism even if that meant more suffering for him.
“Black and imposing. Christ the Redeemer was just like that. An action of solidarity that moves me. But I want, above all, to inspire and bring more light to our struggle,” he tweeted.
Then adding, “I really appreciate all the chain of affection and support I’ve received in the last few months. Both in Brazil and around the world. I know exactly who’s who. Count on me because the good ones are the majority and I won’t give up.”
Further, he stated, “I have a purpose in life and if I have to suffer more and more so that future generations don’t go through similar situations, I’m ready and prepared”.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports has reported that South American Freelance journalist Tim Vickery has said Vinicius may depart Real Madrid if the club does not respond strongly to the latest incident of racism. Tim Vickery, according to Sky Sports, word is spreading in Vinicius Jr’s home nation of Brazil that the winger is fed up with the racism in La Liga.
“He’s just extended his contract until 2027, but unless there are severe consequences to a problem clearly allowed to grow out of control, I think he will be very unhappy to continue his career at Real Madrid,” Tim Vickery said as reported by Sky Sports.
He then added, “In the insignificance of my opinion, it would’ve been better if he’d walked off. It totally extrapolates football. And if and I apologise for the pretention here, if I were in the position of Carlo Ancelotti here, the older, one would hope wiser man, I would’ve said walk off – if this is too much. And it is too much, walk off.”
