A Catholic priest has died after reportedly spending a night at a hotel with a female companion, a news report in Kenya has claimed. The Reverend Father identified as Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, 43 years old died upon arrival at the hospital having been rushed there by the hotel management.
According to the news report which referenced a police statement, the Catholic priest who is a co-worker of the lady, 32 years old, went to the hotel with the lady but things took an unexpected turn in the morning. The priest is a co-worker of the lady at Ruai, an east Nairobi neighbourhood and is also a farmer
“One Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku aged 43yrs old, a Catholic priest at Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer in the Mangu area checked in at the said hotel together with his girlfriend who also happens to be her colleague at the workplace in Ruai,” the police stated.
However, in the morning the priest’s girlfriend notified the hotel management that her boyfriend was dizzy and unconscious and that prompted the management to rush him to the Kenol Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Then, this morning at around 0800hrs, the priest’s girlfriend notified the hotel management that the boyfriend was dizzy and getting unconscious so that they could rush him to the hospital. They then rushed him to Kenol Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” the police statement said.
According to the Tribune, the body of the late priest has been moved to the Mater Hospital Mortuary while the police have commenced investigations into the cause of his death.
