World Cup qualifiers: 9 Black Stars players out due to injury

Ghana will resume its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in June with a short trip to Bamako leading the way. A home fixture against the Central African Republic will conclude June’s calendar. With the Black Stars already trailing Comoros, Mali and Madagascar, maximum results are required to remain in the hunt.

But that might be something that won’t come easy with the Black Stars missing key names. Apart from Andre Ayew who has been omitted and Baba Rahman who is still in a fan-enforced exile, others are missing through injuries.

Atletico Bilbao hitman Inaki Williams is among the top names that are missing with Daniel Amartey of Beşiktaş also absent. While Inaki had surgery to remove a foreign body in his foot, Daniel Amartey is nursing an ankle injury.

Majeed Ashimeru (calf injury), Joseph Paintsil (hamstring) and Nathaniel Adjei (ankle) are all missing out. Mallorca midfielder Baba Iddrisu had surgery to treat Sports hernia thus sitting out the two important matches.

Club Brugge right-back Denis Odoi is absent through a knee injury while Daniel Kofi Kyereh and Joseph Aidoo both have long-term injuries.

Ghana will play Mali on June 6 in Bamako before hosting the Central African Republic on June 10 in Kumasi. The Black Stars are fourth in Group I with 3 points, with Comoros, Mali and Madagascar leading the group with 6, 4 and 3 points respectively.
