According to the Ashanti Regional minister Simon Osei-Mensah, the much talked about Suame Interchange in the Ashanti Region will remain uncompleted by the time President Akufo-Addo exits office as president.
This the minister said is not a political game but something beyond the control of the government. The interchange has been under construction for nearly a year now.
President Akufo-Addo while cutting sod for the construction of the four-tier interchange in the Ashanti Region said the project will also consist of other complementary roads in the area to help improve mobility in the city and the region at large.
However, Simon Osei-Mensah in a interview on the Akoma FM evening political show, GhanAkoma revealed that the project will not be able to be completed before the president leaves office.
“Frankly speaking, I will not say all the major components on the Suame Interchange could be completed before the 2024 general elections in Ghana,” he revealed.
The four-tier interchange, the second of its kind in the country and first in the region is located at the Suame Roundabout and will have overpasses at the Abrepo, Krofrom, Anomangye, Magazine New Road and Abusuakruwa junctions.
Mr Simon Osei-Mensah however, added that the adjoining roads which form part of the project will be completed before the elections in 2024.
“However, it makes sense to say that the complementary roads would be finished before the 2024 general elections,” the Minister stated as quoted by 3news.
The regional minister, however, sought to downplay any forms of politicization of the project.
Despite the political fanfare that accompanied the commencement of the project when the President cut the sod in October, no work has started on the interchange project, nearly half a year since the sod cutting. The project is expected to decongest the traffic situation in the area.
