Ghana head coach Chris Hughton has announced his final shortlist for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast this month. The squad trimmed to 27 from the initial 55-man list including big omissions.

Notable among the absentees are Thomas Partey of Arsenal who is still nursing an injury that has kept him out of action for much of the season and Baba Abdul Rahman. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku who is in the form of his life at Championship table toppers Leicester City has also been dropped. That is also the fate of Tariq Lamptey who is also out of the squad.

While Thomas Partey and Tariq Lamptey have been excluded due to injuries, Baba Rahman requested to be excused from the team. In the case of Fatawu Issahaku, he has been left out so he can sort out his future with Leicester City.

Aside from those four, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Edmund Addo have also missed out. Meanwhile, former Hearts of Oak star Daniel Afriyie Barnieh could also not make the squad.

Included in the list for the tournament are notable names such as Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams and Kudus Mohammed. There is good news in defence as Salisu Mohammed and Alexander Djiku return to the squad. While the former was out injured and hardly kicked a ball at his new club AS Monaco, Alexander Djiku has been missing from recent call-ups despite starring for Fernabache in Turkey.

The tournament kicks off in less than two weeks with the Black Stars expected to go further than the dismal Group Stage exit in the last edition. Ghana is in B with Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique. Chris Hughton and his men will begin their campaign on January 14 with a clash against Cape Verde. They will then take on Egypt four days later before rounding off their group campaign against Mozambique on January 22.
