Chelsea play like five-a-side – Carragher slams Blues

Former Liverpool great Jamie Carragher has slammed Chelsea and likened their play to a five-a-side following another disastrous outing on Tuesday night for Frank Lampard’s men. Chelsea chased the shadows all night long as Arsenal stormed back to the summit of the table with a comfortable 3-1 win.

Jamie Carragher who has seen enough of the “mess” by the Stamford Bridge side expressed his full while speaking to Sky Sports during commentary.

“This could get an awful lot worse unfortunately for Lampard and his staff and supporters,” Carragher beckoned.

Adding, “It’s embarrassing from Chelsea. It’s like five-a-side. It sums Chelsea’s season up. To see how far they have fallen in these last 12 months is astonishing”.

Despite spending over $600 million on new arrivals and paying hefty sums to swap faces in the dugout, Chelsea is closer to relegation than they ever imagined. And Carragher took notice of that as he said spending money doesn’t solve the problem but connections will.

“It tells you spending all the money you have is nonsense. You need to create a connection. Todd Boehly, the plans and ideas he had, it doesn’t work doing that.”

Shockingly enough, Chelsea has quality players on their side with the likes of Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Thiago Silva and Reece James starring for the Stamford Bridge side. Alongside those old guards are new arrivals such as Rahim Sterling, Mudryk Mykhailo and Enzo Fernandez among others who should give Chelsea the depth to compete with any top side.

Regardless, they have now lost six straight games on the bounce since Lampard took over following the sacking of Graham Potter. And Carragher pointed out the decline by recalling how many trophies Chelsea won since Arsenal’s last Premier League title win in the 2003-2004 season.

“They still have quality players on the pitch. To lose six games on the bounce is not acceptable. To think of the success this club has had – since Arsenal last won the title, Chelsea have won 19 trophies,” adding, “Chelsea expect the best, expect standards. This is a million miles away from it.”
