Mohbad dies at 27, more controversy arises with Marlian records

Young Nigerian singer Mohbad, known as Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba died and social media has been washed with the shock news. Known for his hit songs “Ponmo”, “Feel Good” and “KPK”, the budding singer died on Wednesday.

Formerly with Naira Marley’s Marlian Record label, the singer left the label in 2022 citing internal issues as the reason. He then went on to establish the Imolenization label. However, the singer complained about life being hell for him after he exited the label, blaming it on his former label.

Mohbad later claimed on social media that if he dies it should be blamed on Naira Marley and his Marlian Records. He said, “if I die na Marlian music kill me“. According to Mohbad, show promoters don’t pick after he left the Marlian Record label. He said they still go back to the label to seek for him but he is not always contacted because the label tells them he[Mohbad] is not okay, that he is going through a lot and cannot handle shows.

Prior to his death, singer and songwriter Abiola Akinbiyi, known as Bella Shmurda said the singer attempted suicide previously because of the label. He said, “I don’t have to say this, but I’ll say it. There was a point where me and Mohbad we were in an apartment. Mohbad wanted to jump from the upstairs because of this label issue.”

“Something wey fit makes you think you can take your own life. Now, e happen, you go dey write RIP. We loved him.”

“No, there is no love there, and none would speak up. Them dey inside that place. None of them won look anybody’s eye.”

The cause of his death is not known yet.
