Family and Friends Rice supports cook-a-thon by Faila

Valley Grade Ventures, the producers of Family and Friends Rice has donated bags of rice to support Ghanaian chef Abdul-Razak Faila as she attempts to break a Guinness World Record. Chef Faila started her official attempt on January 1, 2024, and has since done over 150 hours of cooking.

Support from Ghanaians has been pouring in for her in diverse ways. While hundreds gather at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale daily to cheer her on, others have supported through donations.

As a wholly owned Ghanaian brand that prides itself in empowering Ghanaian youth through agriculture, Valley Grade Ventures said it was paramount to support Faila. Bags of Family and Friends Rice were donated to the team Faila on Friday.

According to the CEO of Valley Grade Ventures, Forster Anamzo-eya, the gesture was to send the message that the Ghanaian youth are capable of taking significant places in the world. He said as Faila is cooking her way into the history books, it is a source of motivation which resonates with his brand’s dream of consciously believing in the Ghanaian dream.

Cook-a-thon by Faila

Chef Abdul-Razak Faila alias Jah Bless is engaging in an attempt to break the record of the longest continuous cooking by an individual. The record is currently held by Japan-based Irish Chef Alan Fisher. He broke Nigeria’s Hilda Baci’s record last year after doing 119 hours and 57 minutes.

While Faila initially targeted 120 hours, she has since readjusted that to a new target of 240 hours which means she will cook for 10 days. Her latest decision is due to a pending attempt which is awaiting review by the Guinness World Records team. Ugandan food vendor Dorcus Mirembe alias Mama D has already done 144 hours but the record is yet to be verified by the GWR team.

The revised target means even if Mama D’s attempt becomes the new record by the time Faila is done with her attempt, she will still have a chance to beat that record. Currently, she is on day 7 of her attempt and has done 159 hours so far.
