The National Peace Council, NPC and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) has called on the two leading political parties, NDC and NPP to urge their supporters to withdraw from the coalition centres. This was after the parties called on their supporters to go to the coalition centres to guard their votes.

National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi in a pressor urged NDC supporters to move to the coalition centres to police their votes.

“If you were at the polling station at the time of declaration, I’m sure you are by now following the ballot box and other electoral materials to the EC collation centre in your constituency. If you were not at the polling station and you are hearing this message wherever you are in your constituency, this is the time for you to play your role,” Sammy Gyamfi stated.

NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL URGES POLITICAL PARTIES TO WITHDRAW SUPPORTERS FROM COLLATION CENTRES TO PREVENT DELAYS TO THE ELECTORAL PROCESS

Accra, 7 December 2024 – The National Peace Council (NPC), the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), and other partners in the Election Situation Room are aware of calls from the two major political parties to their supporters to converge at the election collation centres to protect the ballots, Electoral Commission officials and Security Service personnel at the centres.

The Election Situation Room is concerned about this regrettable development that could impede the work of electoral officers, unnecessarily delay the delivery of election results, and heighten tension at the collation centres. It is essential that political parties exercise restraint by withdrawing their supporters from the collation centres and allow their accredited agents to observe the collation process.

The NPC calls on political parties to respect the electoral rules and to allow Electoral Commission personnel to carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity in order to deliver a free, fair, and transparent election.
