Lasmid wins big at 24th VGMA as he scoops two awards

Young Hiplife artist Lasmid Nathaniel Owusu, known simply as Lasmid made a grand appearance at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards held on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The talented MTN Hitmaker Season 8 winner delivered to expectations with a top-notch performance at the event.

Besides his enticing performance at the event, the Takoradi-billed hiplife artiste was among a few prestige artists to win multiple awards on the night. Lasmid claimed the Best New Artiste of the Year. He beat competitions by DJ Azonto, Ewuraabena, Jay Bahd, Chief One, Djay and Malcolm Nuna to win the prize.

Adding to his laurels, the “Odo Lastic” singer took home the Best Hiplife Song gong. His “Friday Night” hit beat off competition from Medikal’s “Stubborn Academy”, Jay Bahd’s “Anadwo” and “Ewiase: by Kweku Flick. Also falling flat to the TikTokers’ favourite is “Abonten” by DJ Breezy which featured Kwesi Authur, Mugeez, Stonebwoy, Black Sherif and Smallgod. Amerado’s “Grace” which featured the Highly Spiritual Music artiste himself could not stop Friday Night from winning.

Meanwhile, Perez Muzik won the Songwriter of the Year with “Hewale Lala” and Best Hip Hop Song went to Black Sherif. Epixode took home the Best Reggae/Dancehall Song with “Atia” whereas “Down Flat” by Kelvyn Boy claimed the Best Highlife Song. Camidoh took home the Best Afrobeats Song with “Sugarcane Remix” featuring King Promise and Mayokun and Stonebwoy won the Best Afropop with “Therapy”.
