Rapper Killer Mike has brushed aside the one thing that nearly tarnished his shine at the Grammys. The “Scientists & Engineers” rapper was detained and questioned by Police after winning three awards on the night. Mike was handcuffed and led away by Police following a purported altercation according to a police statement.
But the Graffitis SWAG barbershop boss dismissed the incident as a “speed bump” when he appeared on the V103’s Big Tigger Morning Show on Monday morning (February 5).
He later released a statement to thank the people who helped him realize his dream. Killer Mike in the statement decided to focus on the positives while limiting the details of the incident that caught the headlines.
“I first want to extend my appreciation to the Grammy’s Committee for recognizing me and my team for the work that went into Michael,” he stated per Billboard.
Killer Mike also revealed that he got double good news. According to him, apart from scooping three prizes at the Grammys, he also received news about the health of his son.
“We are incredibly proud and are basking in this moment. I am also grateful that one of my prayers has been answered – the day after my Grammy win – I learned that my son, who has been on the list for a kidney for years, finally has a match. Obviously, we are elated.”
He acknowledged the concerns of fans when the Grammy incident got in the news. According to him, several calls came in from fans wanting to find out if he was safe. He said the confusion was about which door he and his team should use to enter the event venue.
“I do want to note that last night, my team and I fielded a number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK,” he noted.
“I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK. As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter. We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”
The Atlanta-born rapper then urged fans to “keep listening to ‘Michael,’ and keep going after your dreams”.
