Heartbreak for Wamanafo despite Amos Annor’s long ranger against Young Apostles

An 80th-minute-long ranger from Amos Opoku Annor, striker of Wamanafo Mighty Royals in the ongoing 2022/23 Access Bank Division One league dazed Young Apostles at the Sunyani Coronation park on Saturday.

The goal lifted Mighty Royals back to top spirits as they were limping behind coach David Nyaaba’s side. The striker who came in on the 60th minute dazzled speed and became a nightmare for the defenders of second-placed Young Apostles.

Though getting accurate passes from the midfield of his side, Wamanafo Mighty Royals was a desert in the garden, he managed to torment the Young Apostles’ defence with his foot works and his great ball interception skills. A free kick from midfield was collected by the striker after his teammates won both first and second balls with defender Prince Mensah failing to stop Opoku wasted no time in firing the ball into the net of Apostles.

His goal dazed Young Apostle as they had to defend hard to protect their lead while focusing on the counter. He fired some powerful shots in the dying minutes but brilliant goalkeeping from the Young Apostles shot-stopper earned his side the hard—fought victory. His last attempt was a lurking attempt at the far post that flew past a line of Apostles’ defenders.

Though the striker’s lone goal became a short-lived delight as his side couldn’t salvage a point after failing to pull parity and surrendering in a hard-fought victory 1-2 victory for Young Apostles, he had the better of a highly-charged Sunyani mini ‘El Classico’ (Young Apostle versus Wamanafo Mighty Royals).

Both sides had a plethora of chances in the first half but couldn’t seem to know how to get on the scoresheet.
