A former Member of Parliament in the second republic a past president of the Ghana Bar Association Sam Okudzeto has claimed he’d have called for the resignation of the Dormaahene Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II as a judge if he[Okudzeto] was still on the disciplinary committee of the Legal Council. The chief had commented ongoing trial of Gyakye Quayson.

Sam Okudzeto was reacting to the Dormaahene’s call on President Akufo-Addo to intervene and have the trial of James Gyakye Quayson aborted. His comment for the president and the Attorney General to cause the charges to be dropped against the beleaguered MP did not sit well with the former Public Accounts Committee Chairman.

Dormaahene who is a Judge and known professionally as Justice Daniel Mensah told a gathering at Sunyani while speaking at the 10th-anniversary lecture of John Evans Att Mills that the Attorney General should immediately “file a nolle prosequi” to end the trial.

He “As a matter of urgency, I am appealing to the President of the Republic, Attorney General if he has any role to play, that the trial should be aborted”. The Dormaahene is among a number of people who believe following Gyakye Quayson’s election at the by-election, he should be allowed to represent his people in peace.

But Sam Okudzeto thinks otherwise and has threatened that the Dormaahene would have lost his job if he had the power to dismiss him. “If I was sitting in that disciplinary committee of the judicial council I would have asked him to resign or asked him to be sacked as a judge. That’s what I would have done,” Sam Okudzeto said.

Gyakye Quayson aside from seeing himself forced out of Parliament before winning the by-election to return is also standing trial for forgery and purgery as well as deception of a public officer and intentionally making a false declaration when he filed to contest the 2020 elections while still in possession of Canadian citizenship.
