The Ghana Union of Traders Associations, GUTA, has revealed that it has submitted its input to the political parties ahead of Election 2024.
Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of GUTA noted that they usually waited for the political parties to present to them what they intend to do for traders. However, they have taken the initiative this time to tell the parties what the traders want.
“Previously political party candidates would meet and show us their manifestos but now we have submitted a 24-point agenda to be infused in their document,” he said on Hot Issue on TV3, May 26.
According to Joseph Obeng, the extreme economic conditions in the country have put traders on the spot, leading them to “exploit consumers” in order to stay in business. He said the rate at which the Cedi depreciates against major trading currencies is unconducive for business.
The GUTA President added that “businesses are shrinking” because they are “losing capital”. He noted that it is now difficult for traders to get suppliers on credit because of the volatile Cedi, making it difficult for traders to cope.
