Chelsea Football Club has announced the sacking of manager Graham Potter following a disastrous seven months spell. The West London side announced Potter’s on Sunday evening in a statement published on its website.

“Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition. In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future,” the statement read in parts.

Graham Potter’s job was always on the line since he first arrived at the Bridge with many of the fans never welcoming him fully. He started off well but things turned bad soon after as pressure mounted on him prior to the World Cup break.

Following the conclusion of the World Cup, Chelsea managed just one win in over 10 matches before beating Leeds United on March 4 to ease the pressure on Potter. Two more wins followed including a 2-0 success over Dortmund that ensured passage to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The End Was Coming for Graham Potter

However, a shock home defeat to Aston Villa soon after the international break left the club closer to relegation than to a European football slot for next season. The club sits 11th on the table with 38 points after 28 matches.

Meanwhile, Bruno Saltor, one of Potter’s assistants at Brighton who followed him to Chelsea will take charge of the squad on an interim basis.

Co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, have pledged their support for Bruno to lead the team for the rest of the season.

“Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.” the statement read.
