Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has finally won a match since taking charge of the Premier League strugglers last month. He had to wait until his seventh outing with the Stamford Bridge outfit to secure a win. What a sweet moment the former midfield general must be in now.
Bournemouth could not get their share of points from Frank Lampard’s side who have this season become specialists in gifting points to opponents. The manager decried his side’s horrible performances last week after they gifted Arsenal a lifeline to the title chase.
But it was not to be even though Gary O’Neil’s men offered a first-half response to going behind to a Connor Gallagher early strike. The early goal by the English midfielder gave Chelsea the needed boast to fight for something good in the afternoon.
However, Matías Viña levelled for the host just 12 minutes after Gallagher’s opener. The Blues nonetheless saw out the remaining minutes of the half without conceding.
The former Everton manager had to reach out to his bench to cause harm to the Cherries. Rahim Sterling replaced Mudryk Mykhailo while Loftus-Cheek came in for N’Golo Kante who created the opener. Club captain Azplicueta took over from Ben Chilwell while Hakim Ziyech replaced Noni Madueke who had been the biggest threat to the opposition defenders.
Ziyech made an instant impact by creating the goal for Benoit Badiashile to put the Blues in front for the second time in the match. With six minutes plus added time to play, Lampard called on Atletico Madrid loanee Joao Felix to replace German striker Kai Havertz and the decision paid off instantly as netted the third for the Blues. Rahim Sterling was the creative mind behind that goal as the Blues moved back to 11th on the league table having surrender that to Crystal Palace who lost to Tottenham in a London derby.
Chelsea will now hope to end the season in a better position though European football is already gone. They face Nottingham Forest next week Saturday ahead of two heavy encounters away at Manchester City and Manchester United before rounding off the season against Newcastle United at home.
