Black Stars to play Mexico and USMNT in October

The Ghana Football Association has announced the schedule for the senior national team the Black Stars during the October international break. Ghana’s national team will face off against the reigning Concacaf Gold Cup champions, Mexico on October 14 before taking on their neighbours USA three days later.

According to the statement, the venue of the matches has not been ascertained yet but will be in the United States. It is part of the events for the “20th anniversary of the MexTour,” a GFA statement announced.

“The Ghana Football Association has signed a contract with the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) for an International friendly against 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup champions Mexico in the United States as part of the 20th anniversary of the MexTour.”

“This fixture comes off on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at a venue yet to be announced,” part of the statement revealed.

This International friendly forms part of Ghana’s preparations for important competitions such as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November and the Africa Cup of Nations in January next year.

While the venue for the match against Mexico has not been confirmed, that of the one against the US Men’s National Team has been confirmed as the “GEODIS Park in Nashville”.

“Ghana will later play the US National team at GEODIS Park in Nashville on October 17 before wrapping their tour of the United States.”

After playing three matches against the El Tri, the Black Stars are yet to earn a good result having succumbed to three defeats while scoring a single goal and conceding four. The last meeting between the two teams was in June 2017 when the Black Stars lost 1-0. James Kwesi Appiah was head coach at the time and players such as Jerry Akaminko, Asamoah Gyan, John Boye, Lumor Agbenyo, Jonathan Mensah, David Accam, Harrison Afful, Majeed Waris and Frank Acheampong took part.
