Ejisu by-election: Kwesi Nyantakyi rejected by delegates

Estimated read time 2 min read

Former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has been given the shock of his life as his political career got dimmed even before it lighted. The former GFA chief elected to put himself in the race to replace the late John Kumah as MP for Ejisu. However, he did not even get a chance to get closer to appearing on the ballot paper for the Ejisu by-election.

Kwesi Nyantakyi was among nine other candidates in the race for the NPP’s ticket in the constituency. Despite his popularity as the former GFA boss and his much-talked-about connections, the former football administrator was given a hard reality check on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Ejisu.

Before the election, news broke out that the former FIFA Council member was at the hospital due to ill health. However, the experienced football administrator was seen at the election centre to address delegates before voting commenced. His last-minute effort did not work any magic in his favour as he was tossed to the fifth spot in the nine-person contest.

After the close of polls, the delegates massively endorsed the incumbent 2nd Deputy Chairman of the party in the constituency, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng. He polled 394 of the total votes cast to beat Kwesi Nyantakyi and seven others to the ticket to be in the Ejisu by-election.

Following Lawyer Kwabena Boateng closely was Helena Mensah who clocked 302 votes to place second. Yaa Akyawmaa Aboagye placed third with 229 votes with Dr. Evans Duah placing fourth with 63 votes. Kwesi Nyantakyi took Number 5 with 35 votes. The wife of Abronye DC, Portia Acheampong Abronye took sixth with 6 votes while Klinsman Karikari Mensah and Prince Aaron Duah each had two votes. Taking the spot at the very bottom is Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah Boaitey with no vote.
