Former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor is still owed US $220,000 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports after the ministry has made a cumulative payment of US $508,108.12. This was revealed by the ministry in a bid to clarify reports that state that the coach is still owed more than a year after he was sacked as coach of the team.

According to the ministry, it did not keep up with the payment schedule because of the difficulties in raising funds. It said the first payment was made in October 2021, having paid Akonnor GH₵318,378.41, equivalent to $54,054.06 at an exchange rate of 5.89. That was followed by another payment in February 2022 of GH₵335,675.71, equivalent to $54,054.06 at a rate of 6.21. The third payment was made in January 2023 at a rate of 8.6 with the coach receiving GH₵860,000.00, equivalent to $100,000.

However, a fourth payment made on July 27, 2023, by cheque for $30,000 was rejected by the coach who demanded for bank transfer. That was subsequently done on Monday, July 31. That payment brought the total received by CK Akonnor to  $508,108.12 with $220,000 still outstanding.

Reports broke earlier this month that Coach Akonnor and David Duncan were owed $275,000 and $10,000 respectively, over a year after they were relieved of their roles in the team.
