Former Accra Hearts of Oak star man Charles Kweku Bismark Taylor Asampong has fired back at Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo. Charles Taylor was reacting to the GFA ExCo member’s response to Stephen Appiah’s call for more ex-players to be involved in football administration in the country.
According to Oduro Sarfo, ex-Ghana players who want to venture into football administration need to attain higher education to be able to do it. He used former Cameroon skipper and the current Fecafoot president Samuel Eto’o as an example.
“Samuel Eto’o is the FA president for Cameroon. He needed to go to school so he can better himself academically. He joined associations that are affiliated with their FA before making plans to contest. If Stephen Appiah wants to play a key role or wants to lead the GFA, he needs to have better academic knowledge and certificates,” Oduro Sarfo told Onua FM.
Reacting to the comments, Charles Taylor slammed the football administrator saying he always spoke before thinking.
“At the GFA, I believe Oduro Sarfo ranks first among those who speak before thinking. He speaks before realizing what he has said is inappropriate. If you wish to tie school into what Stephen said, then they [GFA] have failed miserably. Because, despite their schooling, they are not achieving anything at the FA,” he slammed.
Then he added, “I would also urge them to learn some common sense to improve Ghana Football, as it worked for previous leaders who had little education but common sense. Just look at the state of Ghana football, do you think we can run football through education?”
Meanwhile, another ex-footballer and former Black Meteors captain Yussif Chibsah did not also hesitate to demand an apology from Oduro Sarfo to Appiah. Chibsah said, “Nana Oduro Sarfo must apologize to Stephen Appiah because football is not all about academics. He should relax and stop attacking personalities,” Chibsah stated.
