CAF: interclub competitions quarter-final draw set for April 5

Africa’s interclub competitions, the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup draw will be held early next month.

According to a report on the Africa football governing body’s website, the draw will be held on April 5 in Cairo. The live draw will be available on all CAF digital platforms as well as partner television stations.

The remaining teams for the CAF Champions League have teams from North Africa dominating as usual. Algerian duo of CR Belouizdad and JS Kabylie will be joined by Raja Casablanca and Wydad AC of Morocco. Esperance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia and either Al Ahly of Egypt or Al Hilal of Sudan will make the list that completes the North African dominance. Tanzania’s Simba SC and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns are the other two teams.

Meanwhile, the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup are also heavily dominated by North African teams with Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales Club from Morocco, US Monastir and either Pyramids FC of Future FC of Egypt and Al Akhdar SC of Libya or DR Congo’s FC Eloi Lupopo or Algeria’s USM Alger will join the list of North African teams remaining. The rest are Asec Mimosas from Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria’s Rivers United, Marumo Gallants of South Africa and Tanzania’s Young Africans.

However, the final group matches will be held this weekend to confirm all the qualified teams. Today, Guinea’s Horoya AC will lock horns with Uganda’s Vipers SC as Zamalek host Al-Merrikh. Raja CA will host Simba SC later in the evening.

On Saturday, Petro de Luanda and Vita Club as well as Mamelodi Sundowns and Coton Sports will be up against each other. The last matches for the day in the competition will be Al Ahly versus Al-Hillal, Wydad AC versus JS Kabylie and ES Tunis versus CR Belouizdad.

For the Confederation Cup, TP Mazember versus Young Africans, Diables Noirs versus Motema Pembe of Congo, ASEC Mimosas against Rivers United and USM Alger versus Al Akhdar will take place. The rest of the fixtures for the day include Pyramids versus Future in an Egyptian derby, Monastir up against Real Bamako, Gallants versus Saint Eloi Lupopo and ASKO versus AS FAR.
