Ghana’s Black Galaxies will embark on a redemption campaign later this evening when they take on their counterparts from Sudan in their final Group match of the ongoing African Nations Championship in Algeria.
Coach Annor Walker and his charges faltered to a gloriously awful start with a 2-1 defeat to Madagascar. The home-based Black Stars laboured to find their footing but could not find any as the Barea outscored them with two goals in 61 minutes. Augustine Agyapong pulled one back but it was a little too late for them to salvage even a point against the East Africans.
Morocco, the other team in the group pulled out and CAF awarded each of the teams maximum points and three goals each for the matches that were supposed to be played against the North Africans.
However, Ghana is still placed last in the group behind Sudan who are yet to kick a ball in Algeria and Madagascar who need just a point in their last match to ensure qualification depending on the outcome of today’s match between Ghana and Sudan.
Ahead of the match, Annor Walker has been speaking of the team’s readiness and mentality.
“The first match we lost but I think we gave away all the goals we conceded. We are meeting Sudan and we have corrected our mistakes,” the former Hearts of Lions coach stated.
“We will go into this match with a different mentality and strategy. Expect a different game from Ghana. Definitely, they are also prepared for it. I am sure they were at the stadium to watch us play against Madagascar,” he continued.
He, however, explained that though the Sudanese might have seen the Galaxies weaknesses in the previous match, they will have none of that to exploit because the team has something different.
“I am sure they may have seen something about us and want to exploit it but everything will be different tomorrow.”
Ghana started in a 4-3-1-2 setup against the Barea with Abdul Razak Yusuf and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh playing upfront with Gladson Awako playing behind them in attack. Razak Kasim operated in central midfield with support from Dominic Nsobila and David Abagna at his left and right respectively. Dennis Nkrumah-Korsah and Augustine Randolf operated as left and right full-backs with a central defensive pair of Konadu Yiadom and Solomon Adomako protecting Danlad Ibrahim.
There is not expectations of deep changes to the lineup that played Sunday but there is expectation that goalscorer Augustine Agyapong will get a chance to join the attack against Sudan.
