A mother sold her baby sold for GH₵300 at Sekondi

A 3-week-old mother has allegedly sold her baby to an unnamed person for GH₵300 in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. Mena Efua sold the baby at Nkotompo in the Western Region 3 weeks after she was helped to deliver at home by her sister Maame Esi.

Maame Esi confirmed the story to Connect FM when she spoke to Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson about the incident.

According to Maame Esi, a week after assisting her sister to deliver at home, she could not find the baby. She questioned her sister, Mena Efua and was told she handed the baby to someone in exchange for GH₵300.

“I assisted her to deliver last week Monday at home. After a week, the baby is nowhere to be found. I interrogated her and she confessed to giving the baby to an unnamed person for GH₵300, but has refused to disclose the identity of the person.”

She added that Mena Efua who is 35 years old later said she gave the baby to a nurse to sell. According to her Mena has refused to disclose the identity of the nurse but claimed that the baby is currently in Accra.

“Initially she said she handed over the baby to a nurse who promised to sell the baby for her but she has refused to name her. She is now telling us the baby is currently in Accra but can’t lead us to the exact place. We are currently looking for help to find the whereabouts of the baby.”

The incident has been reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in the region. According to Connect FM, checks at the DOVVSU office shows the police has commenced investigation into the incident.
