Black Princesses head coach Yussif Basigi has named the final squad for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Columbia. The Black Princesses who are in camp ahead of the tournament will finalize preparations before jetting off to the South American country for the tournament.
Ghana is in Group E with Austria, Japan and New Zealand. The Black Princesses will begin their campaign on September 2 against Austria. They will then face off with Japan in their second group match three days later before rounding off the group campaign on September 8.
Notable names in Yussif Basigi’s squad are captain Afi Amenyeku, Beline Nyarkoh, Stella Nyamekye and Mafia Nyame. Salamatu Abdulai, Wasiima Mohammed and Tracy Twum alongside Mercy Attobrah and Mary Amponsah will star for the Black Princesses.

While Ghana will be making its 7th appearance at the tournament, the country is yet to lay claim to the trophy. Since making a debut in 2010 in Germany, Ghana has been a constant cast at the Mundial. However, the country’s best effort has been the group stage.
Yussif Basigi is making his second appearance at the tournament having previously led the team to France 2018. He will be facing a familiar foe in New Zealand who Ghana managed to beat 1-0 in the final Group A match.
Meanwhile, there are also veterans in the squad with the attacking pair of Salamatu Abdulai and Mafia Nyame making their second appearance at the tournament. Ghana will be hoping that their experience will be valuable to propel the team past the group stages.
Columbia 2024 is an expanded version that includes 4 teams in six groups. Each group winner and runner-up will automatically qualify for the knockout phase and will be joined by the four 3rd best-placed teams.
