Legon Cities announced the death of their goalkeeper Sylvester Sackey. The club took to the social media site, X to announce the sad news barely days before the kickoff of the new season.
Sylvester Sackey has been with the Royals for four years and has played actively as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in the last two seasons. Sackey who was 26 years died on Tuesday. He made 19 league appearances for the club last season and kept seven clean sheets.
A club statement said, “It is with a heavy heart that we sadly announce the passing of our goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey. Sackey has been with us the last four seasons and was our first choice goalkeeper for a greater part of the last two seasons.”
“His demise is a big blow to everyone associated with the club. Our hearts & thoughts are with the bereaved family at this very difficult time. The club is in touch with the family of Sylvester & would communicate our next course of action in the coming days. RIP Sackey.”
Meanwhile, another of the club’s goalkeepers William Essu is seriously sick and is seeking support to treat himself. According to reports, the club owes the goalkeeper some bonuses and salaries.
