Volleyball semi-final- we’d be ready for Egypt – Vitus Tulo

Ghana's Volleyball team beat Nigeria 3-1 on Thursday t book a date with Egypt in the semi-final at the 13th African Game

After getting a clean sweep in all their matches before securing a 3-1 victory in the quarter-finals against Nigeria, the Ghana Volleyball Team is hopeful of beating “top side” Egypt on Friday. Ghana thought they were cruising to another 3-0 clean sweep until Nigeria snatched a 25-27 win in the second set.

But that set that tense defeat did not kill the Ghanaians’ game as they bounced back and won the next two sets to emerge victorious. The victory at the Borteyman Sports Complex set up an intriguing semi-final contest against an Egyptian side that is yet to lose a match in the competition this year.

Speaking after the match, Vitus Tulo, a member of the Ghanaian team said it was a wonderful experience playing against Ghana’s super rivals.

“It was actually a wonderful game playing against Nigeria. They are our neighbours, and then the rivalry is always there, so we’ll continue another time,” Vitus noted.

According to him, though a place in the semi-final was at stake, the team was not worried about anything. He said the team was prepared for a difficult test against Nigeria and was prepared for any outcome.

“We knew it was not going to be an easy game, but we just came to enjoy it. If we win, fine. If Nigeria wins, fine. We see ourselves as brothers, so whoever wins, is fine. We just came to enjoy.”

Commenting on the semi-final against Egypt which is on Friday, Tulo noted that “Egypt is a top side,” adding that they will “be prepared mentally and physically” for the task.

“We have seen our mistakes from our previous matches. We are working on them, and we believe that by the time we finally meet Egypt, we’ll be well prepared to face them,” he told Sports247.

Before facing Nigeria, Ghana Volleyball team beat Chad 3-0, and Kenya 3-0 before securing a 3-0 victory over the Gambia in the final group match. They will face an Egyptian side that defeated Nigeria 3-1, Cameroun 3-2 and 3-0 against Burkina Faso to round off the group stages. The Gambia was their latest casualty, suffering a defeat in the quarter-finals that see the North Africans through to face Ghana.
