Argentine and Paris Saint Germain forward Lionel Messi has been offered a contract by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal that dwarfs Christiano Ronaldo’s offer from Al Nassr. Messi is certain to depart the Parc des Princes when his contract expires in June.

Where the Argentina captain will play next season is not certain despite many clubs circling to have him. The clubs include his former side Barcelona who are interested in bringing their ex-talisman back to the Nou Camp.

However, standing in Barcelona’s way is Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal who have offered the Argentine a groundbreaking deal that dwarfs what his old foe Christiano Ronaldo takes in the middle east. He will become the highest-paid footballer ever in history if he decides to trade Europe for the Middle East.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player’s “priority” is to remain in Europe and Barcelona is waiting for Financial Fair Play clearance before they can offer Messi a deal. PSG also remains an option for the Argentine but their bid has not been accepted as the player wants a “sporting guarantee”. Sporting guarantee in the French capital is not something that can be guaranteed despite their spending power and their star power squad.

Lionel Messi playing alongside his old friend Neymar and French sensation Kylian Mbappe has failed to lead PSG to the only trophy that has long eluded them, the Champions League. They have just been knocked out of the competition by Bayern Munich and the PSG ultras have been tormenting Messi since. He has been constantly booed by supporters who think he is not committed to the club.
