Former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng is all over the media for the latest release from him that indicts several top politicians. The report which is in the public domain now has fingered top government officials and party executives including members of parliament. He fingered a former NPP MP and top government official in the report.
One such top personality is the former MP for Manso Nkwanta who the report said used his position as MP to acquire “several dozens of large scale concessions” and later sold each for GHS200,000. That angered his constituents who voted against him at the party primaries.
In a section of the report titled, “Unwholesome behavior of some MP and Government appointees”, the former minister revealed the attitude of the MP who was also a board member of the Minerals Commission.
“It is on record that the activities of some senior members of the NPP accounted for the anger at community levels. Hon. Joseph Albert Quarm, the former MP for Manso Nkwanta exemplifies such individuals. This is a Member of Parliament for the Manso Nkwanta Constituency in the Ashanti Region and at the same time member of the board of the Minerals Commission.
“He used his position as a member of the Minerals Commission to acquire several dozens of large scale concessions in his district, ostensibly for community mining purposes. He ended up selling these concessions to private individuals, including party member for two hundred thousand Cedis per concession.
“This infuriated the party in the constituency so during the 2020 primaries to select a candidate the electorate voted against Hon. Quarm, the sitting MP, who was more resourced than other candidates. Although there were allegations that he “camped” delegates and attempted to bribe them, he lost to a lesser known individual who did not have any financial muscle,” the report revealed.
