Ghanaian singer Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has successfully concluded her singing marathon after shattering the record previously held by an Indian. The entrepreneur cum journalist made her mark in a marathon that started on midnight of December 24.
After ending the singing marathon on Friday at 7 AM, Afua Asantewaa expressed her gratitude to Ghanaians for standing by her.
According to her, she lost track of the days of the week until she was told today was Friday. “At a point, I kept asking which day it was, and I finally got to know that today is Friday. On behalf of my family, team, volunteers, the media, and Ghana Tourism Authority, I would like to say thank you to everyone who participated in this attempt; it has been a smooth journey and a very successful one,” she noted after ending her attempt.
If confirmed, she will be the new record holder for the longest singing marathon by an individual, a record that was held by Sunil Waghmare for 11 years years.
Ghanaians were ever present at the Akwaaba Village at the Airport to support her. Many stood there cheering her on while others hoisted placards with encouraging messages. On social media, Ghanaians showed support with the hashtag #afuaasantewaasingathon.
At the time of ending her attempt, she clocked a total time of 5 days, 6 hours and 55 minutes; 21 hours and 55 minutes more than the current record holder, Sunil Waghmare.
Meanwhile, Ghanaians will now turn their attention to Tamale where Abdul-Razak Failatu alias Jah Bless Faila will engage in a cook-a-thon. She is attempting to beat the record that has twice been broken in 2023. The event which kicks off on January 1, 2024, will see her attempt to surpass the record record time held by Alan Fischer. Mr Fischer who holds two cooking-related Guinness World Records broke Nigeria’s Hilda Baci’s cook record to set a new one at 119 hours and 57 minutes.
