Ghanaian journalist and entrepreneur Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has revealed that she ended the Guinness World Record sing-a-thon attempt earlier than planned due to ill health. Afua said in an interaction with UTV that she was admitted to the hospital following the conclusion of the record-breaking attempt.

Afua’s medical team advised her to end the attempt which led to her stopping on Friday morning instead of the planned time, afternoon. She told UTV on Saturday, December 30, that she was at the hospital undergoing recovery.

“I’m in a very comfortable hospital ward to tune my system back to how it was before because I denied myself sleep for five days,” Afua Asantewaa.

Dr. Grace Buckman who led the medical team during the sing-a-thon noted that the team advised her to stop because of health implications.

“As a medical team, her health is our top priority now, and we need to ensure she’s okay. We would have loved her to go until noon, but as a medical team, we need to stop it and protect Afua as much as possible. Fatigue has set in, and we’ll now work on getting her well and ready to bounce back and address everyone again,” Dr Grace Buckman.

Meanwhile, Afua Asantewaa and her team are yet to submit the evidence of her record attempt to the Guinness World Records for verification. The newly appointed Tourism Ambassador said during the 31st December Watch Night Service at Potter’s City in Prampram that the judges and technical team have concluded their work. She said the evidence will be submitted to Guinness World Records for verifications and announcement of the decision.
