Former Tottenham Hotspurs manager Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at the North London club claiming it is the only club he does not have emotional attachments to from the list of clubs he’s managed.
The Portuguese manager who has handled some of Europe’s top clubs told reporters that he probably does not have that attachment because he played most of the matches when the stadium was empty. Mourinho took charge of Tottenham between November 2019 and April 2021.
“I hope my words are not misinterpreted, but the only club in my career I don’t still have a deep feeling for is Tottenham. Perhaps because during the period that I coached the club the stadium was empty due to Covid and because President [Daniel] Levy did not give me much.
“In all other clubs, there has always been a solid bond because people are not stupid. It’s not about winning or losing. Fans understand that I fight for them every day. In my case, I am Romanista, Madridista and Interista and it’s a mutual thing. I will forever be tied to Roma and the other clubs I’ve coached,” he told reporters.
When asked about rumours linking him to French Ligue 1 club PSG, he said, he prefers not to speak before games as he wants to prepare for the final which is a rare game in sports.
“I don’t like to speak before games, I like to play. Unfortunately, we can’t play a final every week. I am not thinking about myself. We want to play and we’ll be there on Wednesday,” he said as quoted by Goal.
Jose Mourinho’s Roma is in the Europa League finals with the game set to take place on May 31 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary against Sevilla. It is the second straight European final for the former Chelsea manager since he joined the Stadio Olimpico outfit in 2021. He won the club’s first European title after leading them to the maiden UEFA Europa Conference League.
