The Kaneshie District Court on Monday, April 17, 2023, discharged the Member of Parliament for Madina Francis-Xavier Sosu for lack of evidence. The Madina MP was discharged by the court after more than a year in court with the Ghana Police.
Taking to social media to announce the court’s decision, the Madina lawmaker said he had been discharged because the court did not find any evidence to continue the case. He thanked the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and all who stood by him during the trial.
“I was discharged today by the Kaneshie District Court after the criminal case brought against me by the Ghana Police was struck out for want of prosecution. A special thanks to Rt. Hon. Kinsford Sumana Alban Bagbin and all who supported me against this struggle.
Mr Sosu was charged with “obstructing the highway, causing damage to public property” in 2021. He had evaded arrest on a number of occasions as the police tried to arrest him even in church. But after their several attempts failed, they secured a criminal summons against him which required him to appear before the Kaneshie District Court on November 8, 2021.
The MP had been leading his constituents to protest over bad roads in the constituency.
