John Mahama cleared by OSP in Airbus scandal – full text

Following the conclusion of a lengthy investigation into the Airbus SE Scandal, the Office of the Special Prosecutor exonerated, John Mahama. A press conference by the OSP, Kissi Agyebeng on the matter on August 8, 2024, drew the curtains close on the highly publicized scandal.

 Despite naming John Mahama as Government Official 1 based on the evidence, the OSP said no bribes were paid to facilitate the transactions in Ghana. Kissi Agyebeng noted that Ghana’s name appeared on the list due to John Mahama’s involvement in the communications regarding the deal.

As a result, the NDC flagbearer has been declared clean and guiltless. His brother, Samuel Adam Mahama has also been cleared. A court warrant for his arrest has been dropped while a Red Notice to INTERPOL has also been aborted.

Additionally, the OSP admonished the former President for engaging himself in the meetings that led to the deal despite his position at the time as the Chairman of the Armed Forces Council. Kissi Agyebeng urged that such instances should not be tolerated going forward.

“The direct participation of the President and the Vice President (on behalf of the Republic) in commercial communications and meetings with commercial entities should not be encouraged either – as they expose these elected high officials to the spectre of the slightest hint of perceived corruption that may attend international business transactions. The President and Vice President should be insulated from such direct commercial dealings,”

Sammy Gyamfi reacts as John Mahama is cleared by OSP

Meanwhile, NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi has celebrated the OSP’s findings vindicating John Mahama. The NDC Communication Officer in a celebratory message said “Lies they say, have a short life span. And vindication they say, is in the womb of time.”

He added, “Once again, H.E. John Dramani Mahama has been vindicated, as the Office of Special Prosecutor has exonerated him of any wrongdoing in the Airbus saga.

“The evil smear agenda by the corrupt Akufo-Addo/Bawumia “agyapadie” cabal, who are desperately looking for corruption classmates, has failed.

“Seven and half years after leaving office, John Mahama remains squeaky clean with unblemished integrity. Certainly, John Mahama is the incorruptible leader Ghana needs to win the fight against corruption.”
