Despite the 5-1 humiliation Accra Hearts of Oak suffered at the hands of Medeama Sporting Club, a board member of the Rainbow club still believes in the quality of his players. Alhaji Akambi has doubted the reasons for people questioning the quality of the players.
According to the outspoken board member of the Ghanaian giants, every player at the club will walk straight into the starting XI of any club in Ghana. He said, despite the humbling defeat at home to the now league leaders, the quality of Hearts of Oak players cannot be doubted.
“Every player at Hearts of Oak will be a starter in any team in Ghana so no one can blame us that we had a bad recruitment,” he said as quoted by Footballghana.
Though he said he is still struggling to come to terms with the massive humiliation on Sunday, he can’t doubt what the club has assembled.
Accra Hearts of Oak were put to the sword at the Accra Sports Stadium in front of their home supporters by Medeam SC. Derrick Fordjour opened the scoring in the 18th minute but Hearts of Oak quickly pulled parity through Salifu Ibrahim via the penalty spot 14 minutes later.
However, a former Phobia came haunting them as Vincent Atingah made no mistakes and increased Medeama’s tally from the spot three minutes later. Jonathan Sowah made it 3-1 before the break. Sowah added his second with four minutes of regulation time left to play before Kwasi Donsu completed the riot with his own goal just a minute before full-time.
The win has seen Medeama dethroned Aduana Stars who had occupied the summit of the table for nearly the whole season. The Yellow and Mauve now have a one-point lead at the top with just three matches left to be played.
