Gunmen kill one, kidnap three others in Nigeria

Armed men suspected to be kidnappers on Sunday morning raided a church in Nigeria and kidnapped three people. The gunmen also killed one other while two persons were injured.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at the Akenawe -Tswarev community, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. Members of the Christian Pentecostal Church were said to be having a vigil at the time when the incident occurred.

“It was early this morning (still night hours). A church in one of the branches went for a vigil. As they were praying, they were surrounded by the armed men,” Mrs Salome Tor, Chairman of the Logo LGA told reporters.

According to reports, the resident pastor of the church, Gwadue Kwaghtyo was leading prayers when the gunmen stormed the church and opened fire. Two members of the church were injured as a result while a boy was killed.

Also, three other people were captured and taken away together with the resident pastor.

“They kidnapped three people, killed one boy and injured two people with a machete; they are now in the hospital,” Mrs Salome Tor explained as quoted by Daily Post.
