Former Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Prof Frimpong Boateng has poured cold water on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) hopes of breaking the eight-year cycle. He said the party has not done anything to warrant another four-year term as the party wishes.
According to the renowned surgeon, the party promised more than it could ever do and delivered way below expected. He, however, added that anything is possible in politics so he won’t be shocked if the party still managed to win the upcoming general elections.
“It will be difficult for the NPP to win the 2024 elections. It is a fact that they [the NPP] have over-promised and under-delivered but everything is possible but the NDC is also not giving me any hope,” he told Citi TV in an interview on Monday.
Speaking of his aim while he was serving in government, Prof Frimpong Boateng said he believed the NDC had done terrible things and that the NPP could work to stay in power for over four decades. He said he thought the NPP was going to be so good that the NDC would not ever dream of coming back to power anytime soon.
“When I was in government, I said the way the NDC had mismanaged the country, we were going to help the president and work so that the NPP would still be there even after forty years and there would be no romantic ideas about the NDC again and now look at where we are. I thought we were going to work and there would be no romantic ideas about Mahama and the NDC ever coming back.”
