King Charles has according to a statement from the Royal Family commenced treatment for cancer after he was diagnosed during his stay at the hospital last month. The King went to the hospital last month for a procedure for “benign prostate enlargements”.

The statement did not mention what type of cancer it was and the seriousness of it. Per the statement, “a separate issue of concern was noted” when King Charles went for a procedure at the hospital. “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement added.

Following the diagnosis, King Charles has “commenced a schedule of regular treatments,” the statement continues. It added that the King “has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual”.

Also, the statement said King Charles “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible”.

Meanwhile, the decision to go public with the King’s health condition is a departure from traditional practice where the Royal Family has often remained tight-lipped about such issues. According to the statement King Charles decided to share this piece of information to avoid speculation. It is also to garner support for all people in similar situations as him.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” the statement concluded.
