Assin North: NPP embarks on another panic road construction

The Nana Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration has been pushed into another panic road construction project as it faces another by-election. As happened at Kumawu prior to the by-election, the NPP decided to give the people of Assin North a share of the national cake but only after the Electoral Commission announced the date for the by-election in the area.

Roads at the district capital Assin Bereku have seen activity just a day after the EC’s announcement according to a news report.

But the residents are not surprised and have hailed James Gyakye Quayson who was forced out of Parliament by the court and now seeks to regain the seat come June 27. They likened the NDC candidate to the death of Jesus which benefitted mankind.

“We are not surprised that they are constructing the road. We will give thanks to James Gyakye Quayson for giving the sitting government pressure. When Jesus Christ died mankind benefited and that is the same way James Gyakye Quayson has done,” a resident said as quoted by citinewsroom.

According to the constituents, their roads have been neglected since 1996 and if they have them being fixed now then they owe full gratitude to Gyakye Quayson.

“Our roads since 1996 have not been good, and it has not been any better till today. So, if they are fixing our town roads it’s because of Gyake Quayson.”

However, despite the joy at the commencement of work on the roads, they wonder if the projects will continue after the by-election.

“But the question we want to ask is whether they will continue with all the developmental projects even after the by-elections. Gyakye Quayson has said it already that he will give the NPP government pressure to do the needful, and so he deserves the needed applause.”

The Electoral Commission has set June 27, 2023, as the date for the by-election in the constituency following the creation of a vacancy due to the court decision against James Gyakye Quayson. Gyakye Quayson will represent the NDC against either of Frederick Amoah Kyei or Charles Opoku who will represent the NPP.
