From Computer Science at KNUST to medicine at UDS, The Money Farm author tells his story ahead of his book launch

Every action of a man often has an inspiration behind it and that is probably what warrants the adage that there is no smock without fire. So when one of Ghana’s rising medical doctors decided to author a book while still at medical school, it was not uncommon to think of what this book would be about. Medicine of course, but no! It has little to no medicine inside it, aside from that it offers something that proves even more valuable; light.

Ahead of the official launch of the book, The Money Farm, I caught up with him as I wanted to know his story. Dr Nang-Bayi was not shy about telling his story as he shared it including his plans for the future after the launch of the book.

Dr Nang-Bayi describes himself as “a medical doctor by profession, author, digital assets and wealth creation enthusiast, and a growing philanthropist”. Yes, a growing philanthropist. To be a giver is something but to be one who not only gives but grows in giving, it tells a deeper story. So I was curious to know more so I asked him what he meant by a growing philanthropist.

“Growing up I have always had the burning interest to help people, to touch and transform lives, and to leave a transformative indelible footprint in the world. I was unsure which direction to follow in pursuit of that calling. I went from an early childhood dream of becoming a catholic priest to a later sustained dream of becoming a medical doctor, all in the pursuit of that desire.”

But according to him, it took time and it was in 2014 that his mind was opened for him to understand what he really was hungry for.

“It was not until 2014, that God opened my mind to my true calling and direction. Though it was not in my medical profession, I saw the profession as a foundation, a starting point to building myself, resources and networks towards the effective realisation of that calling.”

So I wanted to know why The Money Farm since his inspiration was to be someone who can help people.

He said, “The inspiration to write The Money Farm came from that same innate desire to help people and make a positive impact on society.

“Over the past seven years, I have had this vision of myself as a billionaire philanthropist impacting millions of children’s lives, especially in rural communities. But the challenge has always been how to build my personality and mindset to attract and maintain and grow the wealth, resources and network needed to make such an ambitious impact.

“I delved into the world of business (tried a few businesses with some friends, including network marketing) and wealth creation. I read books and l studied biographies of wealthy people making a difference in the world. in the course of this self-education, I developed a second passion – sharing the wisdom and principles I discovered with my generation to raise a new tribe of capable change-makers.

“That desire to share what I was learning based on my reading and the several mistakes I made in pursuing my goals culminated in The Money Farm- a practical, down-to-earth synthesis of financial wisdom, with easy-to-grasp analogies and examples that most young people can relate with.

Dr Nang-Bayi is dedicating part of the proceeds from the book’s sales to his charity the Smile-Makers. He explains why he opted to do so.

“The single spark that ignited the discoveries, through self-education, which inspired writing the book was my undying desire and passion to contribute my quota to the advancement of society through dedicated efforts of inspiring and supporting the education and development of kids in rural communities.

“It is for this reason that a part of the proceeds from all my book sales is eternally dedicated to supporting the realisation of that goal. That is my purpose, my calling, my essence.

On how the Smile-Makers became a project that he now seeks to leave as a lifetime legacy, he explained the genesis of the project and why it is special to him.

Official invitation to the book launch

“The Smile-Makers started during my temporary pursuit of a degree in computer science at KNUST, in 2014, when I volunteered to participate in an outreach to a village in the Volta region. It was here I discovered my true calling, through my encounter with the innocent, intelligent and yet environmentally disadvantaged kids in this rural community. It was here, God laid a strong message in my heart – to dedicate my life to inspiring and supporting the education and development of the rural child – my calling and the beginning of The Smile-Makers.

“I have since then undertaken several outreach and philanthropic activities with some like-minded young people and looking forward to scaling our impact starting with this launch on the 29th of April 2023.

The UDS-trained medical doctor spoke about the future. He said he desires to be a transformative influence on society and his focus is on “young minds”, and he sees The Money Farm as the springboard and unifying piece in the strides.

“This launch is just the first step of several giant strides to transform young minds and build a community of young global change-makers through engagements of The Money Farm Academy.

“Going forward, I see an exciting highly transformational movement. I am just starting my career as a writer and see myself authoring a lot more award-winning books on the themes of growth mindset, success principles, wealth creation and living a life of purpose.”

Adding, “Beyond writing, I am really looking forward to seeing several rural kids transformed through our Smile-Makers Charity project”.
