A former Black Stars player and a legend of Ghana football Emmanuel Oblitey have passed on according to a publication by the Ghana Football Association.
The former Black Stars player starred for the team in the 1960s and was a member of the team that competed at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. Emmanuel played at the 1963 African Cup of Nations where Ghana won the tournament. He played three matches in the tournament.
He played club football for Great Olympics and Real Republicans and was a member of the Black Stars team that toured Europe in 1961.
According to the report on his death, the former Black Star died on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the Joy Specialist Medical Clinic in Accra.
His death is the second this year of former Black Stars players following the sudden death of Christian Atsu through an earthquake in Turkey. The winger was buried last week after a state-assisted funeral at the forecourt of the Statehouse in Accra.
