Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Samuel Dubik Mahama has warned Ghanaians who think the ongoing revenue mobilization exercise by the company has a political motivation to clear their eyes. He said the exercise is a national one and he is not leading any political exercise but doing his job as a technocrat.
Samuel Mahama said, “I don’t see myself as doing politics. I see myself now as a technocrat. The biggest mistake we could ever do is to politicize the work done by this office”.
Clarifying things to Ghanaians, he said there is no electricity bill in Ghana that comes with a party colour on it. Everything is in the name of Ghana and he is doing just what will benefit the nation.
“Your electricity bill doesn’t have a party colour. Your electricity bill is red, gold, and green with a black star in the middle, that’s your electricity bill. So believe me, as I said, the status quo balances straight out,” he said as quoted by JoyNews.
Commenting on people who might be hurt by the action of the company, he said it is nothing personal and so people should accept it as that.
“I know a few people who feel slighted. It is not our intention to disrespect anybody or embarrass anybody. I just believe we have a mandate and we should carry it out,” he explained.
The Electricity Company of Ghana has already disconnected other notable institutions such as the KFC which owed GH¢68,000, Ho Airport for owing GH¢63,000 and GRA Office for owing GH¢55,000. Others such as the CEPS Training Academy were disconnected for owing GH¢80,000 and Ho Technical University was taken off the power grid for owing GH¢402,000.
